How do you generate new ideas?
I constantly evaluate what the marketplace is demanding.
Name one business failure and what have you learned from it?
In the past, I’ve been too slow to terminate toxic people. Now I hire better. And I coach, council and terminate faster when I identify toxic people.
What is your greatest business fear, and how do you manage it?
Service obsolescence. I manage it by listening to our customers and focusing on services that have the greatest value instead of the greatest margins.
How do you define success?
To me, success is attempting to balance business, family, personal, and spiritual components of my life to ultimately be happy, fulfilled, and grateful.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
When the federal government changed rules around Medicare compensation, many of our competitors were seriously affected. We were not as affected because from the beginning we diversified our service line, in contrast to recommendations from industry “experts”. Now I listen to the “experts” talk about the value of diversification.
What is one thing that no one knows about you?
I love to work on cars.
Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
There are quite a few, but one that stands out is the Spurs Sports & Entertainment, i.e the San Antonio Spurs.
What is your favorite EO memory?
The Riverwalk event at the Worm.
In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.
