What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Determination, recognizing what you are good at and getting help with the rest, never being satisfied with the status quo.
How do you generate new ideas?
By seeing a gap that exists in a market, business or process. My own experience with being frustrated at how things are generally done gives me ideas on how NOT to do it in my business.
Name one business failure and what have you learned from it?
There have been lots of things I have done wrong, and I still learn something new EVERY day! I once went into a business venture with someone I didn’t know very well not realizing it is like a marriage and you better be sure before you go down that path. Lesson learned.
What is your greatest business fear, and how do you manage it?
My greatest fear is that I am not servicing my clients at the highest level possible. I manage this by training my people extensively and then making them be responsible for the level of service and compensating them for that. I can’t be everywhere all the time so I have delegate and rely on others to make sure it gets done correctly.
How do you define success?
Money is NOT the most important thing to me. Being challenged, fulfilled, helping and mentoring others lets me know I am successful.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
I can’t narrow it down to just one, but when I see my people develop into managers and great talent then I know I have done my job and upheld my responsibility to them for trusting their careers with my business. Saving my client tons of money is also very satisfying!
What is one thing that no one knows about you?
Mmm, hard one. I am a pretty open book. I lived in South Africa for 4 years and traveled for a year when I moved back. It was awesome!
Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
Honestly I love hearing every company’s story and what went well and what did not. I learn something applicable to my business from every entrepreneur or business owner.
What is your favorite EO memory?
I am pretty new to EO, just coming up on 1 year, but University gets it for sure! Hands down!
